Sports after-school activity for kids on the Upper West Side

Teaching Excellence to our Kids trough sports after-school activity for kids on the Upper West Side.

Teaching Excellence to our Kids trough Sports after-school activity for kids on the Upper West Side : All parents in New York face one common problem:  how to best look after the physical fitness of their children when there are limited options for kid’s sports in Manhattan.  The reality is that quality sports after-school activities for kids on the Upper West Side are difficult to find.

Igor Dyachenko, D-Dojo Karate’s Head Instructor has been crafting a kids martial arts program on the UWS oriented specifically for the physical needs of children under the age of 15.

Perhaps one of the most ground-breaking approaches to the D-Dojo Karate approach is to recognize that children are still developing and that it does not make sense to have a generalized “Kid’s Class”.  For this reason, the kids’ curriculum at D-Dojo Karate is divided into Pre-Karate, for children up to age 6 and Youth Karate for children above that age.

In his programs, Igor stresses the importance of key values: respect, discipline and achievement.  Having taught children’s fitness in Manhattan for 10 years, Igor is very attuned to the specifics of their needs and limitations.

Whether in Pre-Karate or Youth Karate, each student receives individual attention from the instructors.  Learning martial arts is challenging, especially for children who are still working on fine-tuning their motor skills.  Our instructors are well versed at helping children as they encounter difficulties and helping them overcome these challenges.  This re-enforces confidence and will help the children not just in their martial arts development but in many of the challenges they will meet in life.

The concepts of progress and confidence building are central to the kids martial arts UWS program at D-Dojo Karate.  Classes are of mixed levels and our young D-Dojokas become a cohesive unit.  Students support one another and help each other as the curriculum progresses. This is central to our values of respect, discipline and achievement.

D-Dojo Karate is an excellent sports after-school activity for kids on the Upper West Side because it brings children to embrace a healthy lifestyle early in life.

D-Dojo Karate is an excellent sports after-school activity on the Upper West Side because it brings children to embrace a healthy lifestyle early in life. The skills they learn in karate will help them in any sport, whether it be baseball or soccer.

Many people do not realize that a karate dojo is in many ways first and foremost a community.  Friendships are forged on the tatami and students are required to work as a team in many exercises.  Important social bonds are built.  This will help students in their social interactions later in life, and help them be successful in their adolescence and adulthood.
